Explore More Information: P-CoC Inc’s Commitment to Race, Color, and Ethnicity P-CoC Inc remains steadfast in its mission to address systemic inequities related to race, color, and ethnicity. Our primary goal is to amplify the voices and perspectives of historically marginalized communities, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. To ensure our impact is authentic and sustained, we seek partnerships with organizations that prioritize Human Protective Rights (HPR) or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives focused specifically on race, color, and ethnicity. While individual members of P-CoC may engage in broader intersectional work, the organization itself remains intentionally focused on these three core categories. We reject interest convergence, the alignment of marginalized causes with those of more privileged groups, as it often dilutes our mission and undermines meaningful reform. Nevertheless, we support efforts that empower persons of color across backgrounds, provided such efforts remain aligned with our foundational focus. Authenticity Over Tokenism P-CoC’s rejection of interest convergence stems from a recognition that race, color, and ethnicity are often sidelined as outdated concerns or reduced to symbolic inclusion. Performative actions offer surface-level diversity without dismantling the structural barriers that sustain inequality. These gestures can create the illusion of progress while leaving systems of oppression intact. P-CoC remains committed to resisting such superficial approaches and instead advocates for substantive, lasting change. Intersectionality and Structural Power A key challenge in this work is that individuals marginalized by race and ethnicity often lack the intersectional privileges that others can leverage for broader support. For example, individuals who benefit from racial privilege, even if they face other forms of discrimination, often maintain access to influential allies who share their racial identity. This access amplifies their voices and secures broader institutional backing. In contrast, people of color frequently lack such systemic support, making it more difficult to advance initiatives solely focused on their racial or ethnic identity. Navigating the Catch-22 Avoiding interest convergence is essential to dismantling the "savior mentality," wherein racial privilege is used to validate or advance justice efforts. However, this rejection also complicates the task of securing widespread support for confronting entrenched racial and ethnic disparities. This is the paradox at the heart of P-CoC’s formation: to achieve genuine transformation, we must reject tokenism and superficial alliances, even when doing so limits access to institutional power. Our work demands the courage to persist without compromise, guided by a principled commitment to those most affected by racial and ethnic marginalization.
