DR. DAMARIS-LOIS YAMOAH LANG

Board Official | President

Dr. Damaris-Lois Yamoah Lang is the Founding President of P-CoC Inc | Parenting Children of Color. She serves as Executive Director of Operations. Dr. Lang’s field of study in Neurobiology of Parental Care, amongst other things, drove her into establishing P-CoC Inc | Parenting Children of Color. She hopes to address societal triggers impacting the neurobiology of racial and color inequity behaviors at its core, bringing elements that reinforce racism and colorism to the surface, advocating for a solution-oriented problem-solving approach to foster an equitable co-existence for all. Dr. Lang has been in higher education for almost twenty years and continues to serve in several capacities. She is currently working as a college professor and administrator with CUNY. Dr. Lang serves as the Vice Executive Director and Awards Program Director for The CUNY Academy for The Humanities and Sciences at the City University of New York. The Academy was established in 1981 by the CUNY Board of Trustees to integrate faculty across all CUNY Campuses and promote and support faculty research and intellectual exchanges. At her home college - Hostos CC, she serves as the Science Program coordinator and chairs several other Institution committees.  In her town of residence, the village of Hastings-On-Hudson, Dr. Lang serves as a board member of the Youth council. The Hastings Youth Council provides support and resources to the youth of our community and their families. Dr. Lang is also an elected Board of Trustee official of Education for the Hastings-on-Hudson School District. Dr. Lang attended medical school to earn a medical sciences degree, has two masters and doctoral degrees. She also earned an Executive Education on Public Leadership in three certification areas on Creating Public Value; Leading Successful Programs: Using Evidence to Assess Effectiveness, and Creating Collaborative Solutions from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government. One of Dr. Lang’s mantras - what we have we did receive (1 Corinthians 4:7), is what drives her to extend herself to others.

MR. FELIX SANCHEZ

Board Official | Vice President

Mr. Felix Sanchez serves as the interim Vice President and Vice Executive Director of Operations of P-CoC Inc. He is a higher education professional with remarkable leadership and administrative oversight record. He is a skilled and articulate individual with a strong work ethic. Mr. Sanchez's innate ability to solve problems, use creative thinking, and develop systematic procedures and methods are invaluable to any growing organization. Mr. Sanchez obtained a Master's degree from Northeastern University, where his study was in Higher Education Administration. Additionally, Mr. Sanchez has an educational background in Computer Science and Microcomputers for Business. Sanchez's positive attitude, flexibility in stepping up into other responsibilities, commitment to excellence, and working well with others make him thrive well in any work environment.

MS. KARINA VILLALONA

Board Official | Secretary

Ms. Villalona is a mother of three who was born and raised in Washington Heights.  She received a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Pace University, working as an early childhood teacher in Harlem, NY, and in Los Angeles, CA before returning to graduate school. She earned a Master's Degree in Bilingual School Psychology from California State University- Los Angeles and has been practicing in that capacity since 2002. Ms. Villalona is additionally a National Certified School Psychologist. Ms. Villalona has employment in one of the largest school districts in Westchester County for the past 13 years. In her role as a bilingual school psychologist, she is involved in the evaluation and assessment of students to identify educational disabilities. She is also a counseling provider for classified students, serving as an integral participant in the school PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) and MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) committees.  For the past three years, she has participated in a collaborative project between the school district and NYU Technical Assistance Center on Disproportionality [TAC-D] with a focus on disproportionality in special education and suspension charges. The main goal has been to ensure that equitable outcomes get achieved district-wide. Ms. Villalona is committed to being of service to her community and school district. Her most rewarding work has been in supporting families in obtaining mental health support and in helping students and families become strong advocates for themselves. She serves as the Secretary of P-CoC Inc and Communications Director of the Executive Operational branch of the organization.

DR. RONETTE SHAW

Board Official | Treasurer

Dr. Shaw is an Educator with a doctorate, a master's degree, and an FNP (Certified Family Nurse Practitioner) with approximately 20 years of experience in medical-surgical acute care settings. She has also worked in primary care medicine, cardiovascular management, geriatric medicine, women's health disaster preparation, patient management, and safety for the past decade. In addition, Dr. Shaw serves as a nursing educator with the City University of New York, supporting students and working closely on curricular development, consultation, and supporting accreditation for health care organizations. As a mother of two small children, she joined P-CoC to support equity and advocacy for children of color. The mission of P-CoC, directed toward unlearning hate and self-hate, has value to what parents should model for their children. Dr. Shaw is a team player with a remarkable professional and personal skill set. Dr. Shaw's doctoral work focused on team teaching at the graduate level. Dr. Shaw serves on several committees. The Senate Scholarships and Awards Committee (SSAC) is one such committee where she serves as the Vice-chair, advocating for financial support for students in need and students who have obtained academic excellence in their educational achievements. Dr. Shaw is currently a governing board officer serving as the treasurer, and in an executive operational capacity, she is the organization's budget director.
